What is Developmental Delay?
Developmental delay refers to the delay in the development of a child as normally expected at his/her age. This delay in development may be seen in one or more areas. The areas where a child may show developmental delay include speech and language, gross/fine motor activities, thinking and understanding skills, social and emotional development. When a child shows delayed development in a majority of or in all of the areas mentioned above, it is referred to as global developmental delay. The first three years of a child’s life are crucial to development. Every child develops at his/her own pace. However, there are average time periods by when a child is expected to achieve certain milestones. When a child is not able to achieve these developmental milestones within the time period expected at his/her age, he is said to show developmental delay.
When a child is not able to do the following activities within the given timeframe, there is developmental delay and medical help is needed:
At 6 months: Child does not roll over – both in the front and back, achieve head control, sit up with support and start to babble
At 9 months: Child does not crawl, sit without support, respond to familiar names
At 12-15 months: Child does not say 1-2 words, stand without support or start to walk
At 2 years: Child does not speak at least 10-15 words or can’t walk.
What Causes Developmental Delay?
The exact cause of developmental delay in a child may be hard to pin point, but among the many reasons for developmental delay, the major ones are premature birth, complications during pregnancy, genetic disorders like Down’s syndrome or loss of hearing. Developmental delay can also be a symptom of autism spectrum disorders.
Homeopathic Treatment of Developmental Delay
The Homeopathic system of medicine is highly safe and effective in treating diseases affecting children, including developmental delay. Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay are natural and therefore, free from side-effects. Homeopathic medicines, which are selected as per constitutional symptoms, help overcome developmental delay to a large extent to aid normal development of the child. Delayed development – both at the mental and physical level – can be treated wonderfully well with Homeopathic medicines. Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay are selected after taking into account the smallest detail of the case. The medicines that I have found most effective in children are Calcarea Carb, Calcarea Phos, Baryta Carb, Tuberculinum, Carcinosin, Aethusa and Silicea.
Homeopathic Medicines for Developmental Delay
Calcarea Carb – One of the most effective Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay
Calcarea Carb is one of the top grade Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay. I have seen excellent results in children with delayed development after they were given Calcarea Carb. This Homeopathic medicine is most suited for children having a fatty, fair and flabby constitution. Children who need Calcarea Carb are slow in learning to walk and have slow dentition. They tend to be obese, with a big head and large belly. The skin often looks pale and chalky in children for whom Calcarea Carb is the best prescription among Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay. There are other symptoms as well: the children are sluggish, dull and lethargic. Fontanelles, especially the anterior one, may also show delayed closure in children who will respond well to this Homeopathic medicine, rated among the best Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay. Another peculiar symptom is the tendency to perspire excessively, mainly on the scalp, neck and chest. If the sweat has a sour smell, you know that Calcarea Carb is the appropriate choice among Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay.
Calcarea Phos – Top rated among Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay
Natural medicine Calcarea Phos is one of the best Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay and extremely useful in treating children with slow mental and physical growth. I have seen children make up for the delay in reaching their developmental milestones amazingly fast with the help of this medicine that ranks on top among Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay. Calcarea Phos is especially effective in delicate, thin, emaciated children with noticeably slow progress. These children are late in learning to walk and talk, the teeth develop slowly and the posterior fontanelle may be slow to close. The skull is soft, thin and brittle in such instances, another key symptom to look out for before deciding on this Homeopathic medicine for developmental delay cases. The digestive system is also weak in such cases where Calcarea Phos will show results as one of the most suitable Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay. The child that needs Homeopathic medicine Calcarea Phos wants to be nursed all the time. Colic and vomiting post feeding are also observed. The child may suffer chronic diarrhoea with watery, offensive and greenish stool.
Baryta Carb – Most prominent among Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay due to trauma, vaccination
Baryta Carb is also one of the best known Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay that has made a mark. In my clinical practice, I have seen children respond exceedingly well to this medicine. Baryta Carb shows excellent results in children who are dwarfish, both mentally and physically. These children often appear dull minded and are slow learners where speech and walking are concerned. Baryta Carb is one of the most effective prescriptions among Homeopathic medicines for development delay in such cases and has shown remarkable results where children show a marked fear of strangers as well. Baryta Carb is also majorly useful when the child shows retarded development after trauma or vaccination. Profuse sweat with offensive odour, mainly on the feet, may be present along with the above mentioned symptoms in such instances of developmental delay. Baryta Carb is one of the most preferred Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay in children who suffer from chronic tonsillitis attacks.
Tuberculinum and Carcinosin – Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay cases with low immunity, autism
Natural medicines Tuberculinum and Carcinosin are popular Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay that have shown satisfactory results. Homeopathic medicine Tuberculinum works well in children who are weak, emaciated and mentally deficient due to retarded development. Like in all developmental delay cases, they learn to speak late. However, they have a tendency to catch a cold and suffer from recurrent upper respiratory tract infections. Here Tuberculinum tops the list of Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay that will help calm the symptoms. Excessive sweating, especially at night, may be noticed in children where Tuberculinum will be the ideal option among Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay. Carcinosin, also one of the favoured Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay, is equally effective in children with arrested growth. A child who needs Carcinosin would have very low immunity and thus, suffer from recurrent severe infections. Children in such cases of developmental delay have difficulty falling asleep. Therefore, where the child needs to be carried around or rocked to sleep or where he specifically sleeps on the abdomen, Carcinosin is one of the most effective Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay. Carcinosin is also the best Homeopathic medicine for autistic disease in children with development delay. Such cases show marked hyperactivity and restless behavior.
Silicea and Aethusa – Best Homeopathic Medicines for Developmental Delay in children with peculiar symptoms
Silicea and Aethusa are two top rated Homeopathic medicines that have shown marked improvement in children with developmental delay. Among them, Silicea is one of the most effective Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay that works best in children with a large head and thin legs. The sutures and fontanelles are slow to close in these children. Other key constitutional features that prompt use of Homeopathic medicine Silicea are – emaciation, defective assimilation, distended abdomen, delay in learning to talk and walk. In addition to this, worm infestation may also be present in children who are prescribed Silicea, established as one of the most suitable Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay. Aethusa is another of the best rated Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay majorly recommended in infants who are unable to hold their head. These children are highly restless and cry too much. Another guiding symptom for use of Aethusa as the best among Homeopathic medicines for developmental delay is the child’s inability to digest milk. The child is intolerant to milk and may vomit curdled milk if fed. Weakness, exhaustion and sleepiness may result. These children may also get diarrhoea after taking milk, another sign that Homeopathic medicine Aethusa must be given.
Does CALCAREA CARBONICA 200CH help child with speech delays??
Pl advise if stramonium Q is safe and suitable for treating hyperactive five year old child who has speech delay problem
Wow wow wow thank you for this !
I am currently studying homeopathy , but recently started , so I’m far away from diagnosing.
But one will do anything for their kids !
I have a little boy , who was perfect when born and I think a vaccine harmed him.
We’ve been in therapy since he was 8-9 months , OT , PT , the. Pandemic started, he barely talked , he walked when he was 17 months…
He is chunky , but also very strong because he has worked a loooot in therapy.
He has a very high tolerance for pain or barely feels, he had a very bad infection of estafilococos aureus, where he and his brothers were given like 7 antibiotics and none helped.
And then silicea did magic for us , since I gave him that , i started seeing him more and more aware, started speaking more…. And now I understand why !
But that was almost a year ago !
He falls a lot , his balance is off, he speaks muuuuch more everyday , but still he is not to the level of a four year old.
He is corpulet like “psoros?” But has tiny feet ! And still baby chubby hands and cheeks
In school they don’t know if he needs to repeat K1 or go into k2.
I’m writing because I am desperate.
This week in class I discovered baryta, it was barely mentioned and the wonders for a delayed in very young age or a very old age… and have not stopped reading !
I also gave it to him ! In a 30c.
But would love to know if I’m doing the right thing or if there is anything, I can do to help him reach his potential and milestones !
I’m so happy o found your page !
Thank you ! I can’t wait for your kind answer!

I have a 4 year old daughter. Born 6 lbs 12 oz and 19 inches. Currently she is considered below 1% in growth chart with 26.2 lbs and 2.11 inches.
She started crawling by age 6 months and walking by 10-11 months and speaking talking clearly by 2.5 years. She is very hyper physically, sensitive and smart as surprises others by what she says.
She has constipation issue since age 1 when was given zantac anti acid. Constipation last for 4 to 7 days. Was given laxatives Miramax which I am against and recently started giving her Bryonia 30
Sep 2018 test showed her IGF-1 to be slightly low at 25.
Her mother is pushing for growth hormone which I am strongly against and trying to found alternate approach. I have been recommended to give her Alta Alfa and All Phos tablets.
I have untill July 2019 or she woukd be enrolled in growth hormone therapy GHST by her mother as we are separated.
Your urgent input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
My son is 4 years 9months old with speech and developmental delay problems. He birth weight is 2.7 kg, but physically he is lean (not weak) weight is 14kg and height is 37 inches below normal range. He is very actively participating in all the activities, playing, running, watching TV and very excited to do the works, if we give any instruction, he is following and hearing is also fine,But He doesn’t talk at all. His Brain MRI scan is Normal.
Our observations, he is not speaking at all and his physically growth is not matured, looks like his behavior is like 2 years old kid. He used feeding bottle for nearly 2 years and his tooth is decayed.
Please let us know if you need any more information and suggest us for his speech improvement and physical growth. Thatis of great help for us.

i dont know his development have been weaker because of specifier or what, he is not trying to learn any new words, please help me i am even trying to give up his habit of taking pacifier but it will take time, please suggest me something to improve his speaking skills
My son was born 6 weeks early as a baby would wake up screaming loud just for a wet diaper. I was unable to breast feed so, he had formula. Walked at around 11 months. Started saying words but, after 2nd or 3rd vaccination I noticed he wasn’t saying those words as much. I stopped all vaccinations since then. Giving him good vitamins At 4 yrs. old he can say any word he wants but, doesn’t talk conversationally. Likes playing with kids but, won’t try to talk to them. He always has been a picky eater but, seems to be getting worse and appetite is down unless he is distracted by something he likes while eating. Also, having great difficulty with potty training. Will pee in the toilet but, will not poop in it. Only in a diaper. Lately, has been even fighting me about peeing in the toilet. He has recently started speech therapy and attending a class by himself at our church. I seem some improvement with his talking but, still will not participate in a back and forth conversation. I need help.
